The School of Psychology at Massey University is large and diverse with academic staff engaging in a wide variety of teaching and research activities across our three campuses in Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington. The Health and Aging Research Group (HARG) is a research team based in the School of Psychology that is devoted specifically to investigating issues concerned with physical and mental health in older adults.

The New Zealand Institute for Research on Ageing (NZiRA) is an initiative from Victoria University of Wellington. Its mission is to foster understanding of such issues through promoting multidisciplinary research, in partnership with other interested organisations and individuals.

School of Maori Studies, Te Putahi-a-Toi, Massey University

The mission of the School of Maori Studies is to provide an academic focus for: Maori cultural, social and economic development, the retention and development of New Zealand's heritage, and the advancement of indigenous peoples. The Te Hoe Nuku Roa research project is one of many projects dealing with Maori physical and mental health which is based within the School of Maori Studies.

The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) is the Crown agency responsible for the management of the Government's investment in public good health research. Ownership of the HRC resides with the Minister of Health, with funding being primarily provided from Vote Research, Science and Technology. The HRC is the major government-funded agency responsible for purchasing and co-ordinating health research and fostering the health research workforce in New Zealand.

Age Concern New Zealand is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation, dedicated to promoting the quality of life and well-being of older people, advocating positive healthy ageing for people of all ages. It is a federation of local Age Concern Councils, which each provide information and services in cities and most major provincial centres around New Zealand.

The Office for Senior Citizens, Te Tari Kaumatua

The Office for Senior Citizens was established in 1990, and is part of the Ministry of Social Development. Its role is to (1) lead, monitor and promote the New Zealand Positive Ageing Strategy, (2) provide policy advice on issues that affect older people, and lead strategic and cross-sectoral policy, and (3) support the Minister for Senior Citizens.

The New Zealand Association of Gerontology

The New Zealand Association of Gerontology is an interdisciplinary organisation for the wellbeing of older people and the study of ageing in all its aspects. The aims of the association are (1) to stimulate interest and action in all matters concerning the welfare of older people, (2) to encourage the training and continuing education of those caring for older people, (3) to act as advisors to interested persons, bodies or groups on aspects of ageing, and (4) to study ageing in all its forms, and to promote gerontological research.

Research Services provides a management service to assist with all aspects of research, development and commercialisation. We are a national shared service, having offices in Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington with staff available to provide the 'research infrastructure' to support staff and students engaged in research and consultancy activities.

Health and Retirement Study (HRS)

Established in 1992 as a collaborative effort between the US National Institute on Aging and the University of Michigan, the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) is the worlds foremost study of health and aging. Based at the University of Michigan, the HRS surveys more than 22,000 Americans over the age of 50 every two years and paints an emerging portrait of an aging America's physical and mental health, insurance coverage, financial status, family support systems, labor market status, and retirement planning.
